Trustee Baird serves as the primary elected official of the township and is charged with the administration of a $25 million budget. During his tenure, Baird has implemented several innovative practices reducing the cost to manage the township, reducing taxes for residents and providing efficient management of services. Baird led the effort to restructure the Wayne Township Fire Department, resulting in reduced response times, a better-trained firefighting force, and enhancement of mutual aid responsibilities, an increase in fire prevention and safety programs and diversity among Department staff. Trustee Baird remains active in the community. A resident of Haughville, Baird was the founder and remains a board member of the Weed and Seed Program, a program designed to rebuild communities while reducing crime. He provides community-based leadership as a member of the Westside Community Cooperative and the Haughville Community Council. Each of these organizations works on community and economic development activities on the near Westside of Indianapolis. David Baird has a keen understanding of business development. As the Chief Operations Officer for Electrical Mechanical, Inc., Baird uses his knowledge gained from thirty (30) years as a journeyman electrician and a member of IBEW Local 481 to provide management expertise for the locally-owned small business. Trustee Baird believes that it is incumbent upon each of us to make a difference. That’s why he has used the lessons learned from his years of membership at Mt. Zion Baptist Church to help those who are less fortunate in our society. Baird is a life-long member of the Democratic Party and formerly served as a District Representative on the Wayne Township Board. In addition, Trustee Baird serves as a Precinct Committeeperson for the Marion County Democratic Party. |
