The township trustee and/or the township assessor are required to collect a tax on each dog within the township and dog owners are required to pay the tax on dogs they own or harbor. Monies collected, less expense, are placed in the township Dog Fund and used to pay the cost of livestock killed, or damaged, by dogs.
